01/10/2012 Selectboard Receives Heritage Project Report
At the Selectboard meeting on January 10, 2012, Tom Mulcahy and Jeff Ling, the consultant from Evergreen Consulting who has been assisting with the final phase of the work, formally presented the final report of the Heritage Project. The Selectboard was enthusiastic about the output and grateful for all the effort that went into it. They were reminded by Tom that the hard work now begins to sort through the plans and recommendations, establish priorities and begin implementation. The Community and Economic Advisory Council (CEDAC) may oversee the implementation of action items. The report will be published on the Colchester town website and can also be found below.

9/28/2011 Heritage Steering Committee Establishes Priorities for Objectives
During August and September, Steering Committee members have been determining priorities for the 16 objectives that have been developed. Meanwhile, the sub-groups have been meeting to discuss and craft action plans and strategies to carry out the objectives. The current priority list results from votes by most Steering Committee members.
6/22/11 Final Heritage Project Goals and Objectives Approved by Steering Committee
After forming and meeting with the subgroups for each of the six goal areas [Education and Opportunities to Learn, Economic Development, Tourism and Recreation, Environment and Agriculture, Infrastructure, and Governance] the Steering Committee team leaders finalized the goals and objectives on June 22, 2011 bringing Phase I of the project to a close. We are now embarking on Phase II with the next Steering Committee meeting scheduled for 5:00 pm, August 3, 2011 at the Town Offices. An overview of Phase II of the Heritage Project can be found here.

Phase II of the project now begins which includes the development of strategies to reach these goals along with priorities, action plans, responsibilities, measurement of the progress and a plan to communicate with community members. 3/31/11 Thanks for Participating in the Public Goals Forum on March, 30 2011
Many thanks to all those who attended the Heritage Project goals forum last night at the High School. More than 90 folks shared their views in six small group sessions using a SWOT Analysis and to establish a goal in each focus area. If you have additional input, please provide comments here.

03/26/2011 Remember! to Attend the Public Forum on March 30, 2011 in the cafeteria at the High School. Doors open at 6:30pm with light refreshments.
We will be breaking into small groups for a SWOT Analysis [discuss Colchester's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats] This will be followed by small group discussions of the goals that should flow from the vision crafted from the public input at the December 2010 Public Forums. The goals to be discussed on March 30 can be found here.

02/15/2011 Public Forum Date, March 30, 2011 for Phase II, Establishing Goals
The Steering Committee set Wednesday, March 30, 2011 for a discussion of goals to begin Phase II of the Heritage Project. The public forum will be similar in format to the December forums establishing the vision. This forum will be at Colchester High School beginning with refreshments at 6:30 pm. We encourage you to attend. Details are here.
01/19/2011 Steering Committee Adopts Final Vision Statement
At its meeting today, the Steering Committee adopted the following vision statement based on input from the public forums on Dec. 2 & 4, 2010:
"Colchester, Vermont located on Lake Champlain’s Malletts Bay is a diverse, civic-minded community endowed with a rich heritage of commercial, agricultural, recreational, and educational gifts. Proud of the quality of life already enjoyed here, the people of Colchester seek to build upon this foundation to ensure economic prosperity, recreational opportunity, and an entrepreneurial spirit for future generations."
Next steps include establishing a set of goals to present to another public forum on March 30 at 7:00 pm in the Colchester High School Cafeteria

12/20/2010 Steering Committee Thanks Public Forum Participants
This letter/email of thanks went to all participants in the Heritage Project public forums held on Dec. 2 and Dec. 4, 2010. The Steering Committee will be hard at work in early January distilling all we learned from those sessions plus additional input via this website.
12/17/10 Determine the Vision and Inform the Community
Later in January our plan is to determine 5-10 specific areas based on public input (e.g., transportation, infrastructure, recreation, etc.) to focus on in preparation for a public workshop in February or March which will take us to the beginning of the next phase of the Heritage Project, determining goals and action strategies.

With the help of our consultant, the Steering Committee is distilling the input from the public forums held in December and from others. From the public input we hope to have a Colchester Vision statement ready in January which we will disseminate widely.
